Pierre-Louis Prosper

Prospère Pierre louis was part of the five member Saint-Soleil group. He was the son of a houngan (priest of Voodoo), and from an early age trained in that tradition. In 1962 he moved to Port-au-Prince and found work as a hairdresser and then as a headwaiter in the home of the parents of Maud Robarts. Prospere  and Jean Claude  Garoute, members of the Haitian intellectual elite, established the commune of Soissons la Montagne where the art of the Saint-Soleil was born. Tiga taught Prospère to paint and was his first mentor. After a falling out between the Saint-Soleil artists and Tiga , the group disbanded in 1978. Prospère  has continued to paint works that explore the Voodoo spirit of Haiti.
